Pipion captures 400m record on Senior Day

CLOVIS, Calif – Fresno State senior Ceonna Pipion turned in a Senior Day to remember on Saturday at the Fresno State Invitational at Veterans Memorial Stadium, picking up two wins, two runner-ups, breaking a school record and narrowly missing a second one. As a collective, the Bulldogs closed the weekend with 18 Top-3 finishes and five improvements in the program's record book.

Pipion opened her day in the 4x100 relay with Antoinette Stubbfield, Iyanna Ross and Chloe Sharp, lowering their No. 2 time in program history to 45.24. The 400 meters then saw her claim her third school record this year, dropping a 52.79 to win. She broke Tanya Dooley's record by one one-hundredth of a second, a mark that had stood since 1994.

The Folsom, California native later took second in the 200 meters with a blistering time of 23.48, missing the school record by three one-hundredths of a second. Her 4x400 relay team of Sharp, Ross and Miana Giovannini closed their day with a win, finishing in 3:39.96.

On the men's side, Enock Okoh produced three Top-3 finishes. Starting with a second in the 4x1 with a 41.25 alongside Joziah Hagedorn, Bronson Ortlieb and De'Antae Choates. He later placed runner-up in the 100 with a personal best 10.50. The junior closed his day by entering the program's Top 10 in the 200 at No. 9 with a time of 20.98. He became the first Bulldog male sprinter since 2005 to break into one of the program's Top 10s in the sprints.

In the field during the afternoon, Liz Tarczy grabbed her second straight win in the high jump. Clearing a personal best 1.77m a week ago, the freshman went one further, improving her mark to 1.80m/5-10.75. She moved to third on the program's all-time list. Jordyn Bryant improved her No. 3 mark in the discus on the Fresno State list to 59.70m/195-10. She and Cierra Jackson (57.10m/187-4) went 2-3 in the event.

In the triple jump, Rachela Pace finished second on the women's side with a mark of 12.91m/42-4.25 while Kyle Hughes took third on the men's side with a PB of 15.10m/49-6.5.

Jackson picked up Fresno State's first win of the day, throwing 17.26m/56-7.5 in the shot put. The Bulldogs went 1-3-4-5 in the event with the senior trio of Bryant (15.74m/51-7.75), Amelia DiPaola (14.11m/46-3.5) and Morgan Johnson (13.12m/43-0.5) rounding out the Top 5, competing just after they were honored with their senior class.

Harriette Mortlock closed out the meet with a win in the javelin. The sophomore's top throw of 48.35m/158-7 came on her first attempt of the competition.

Fresno State will be off next weekend as the teams gear up for the Mountain West Outdoor Championships May 9-11, hosted at Veterans Memorial Stadium.
